Question: How can I help my church? How will I do my part?
We all have three things which can be used to help the church. First, we have time. How we use our time is an excellent exercise of reflection. How much time can you allocate to serving the church? Second, we have resources, which can be given in the offertory every Sunday morning or given periodically for things like Week of Compassion. Have you made a habit of tithing, which means giving one tenth of your income each year to the work of the Lord? A portion of your tithe should always be given to the church. If you cannot give a tenth right now, start where you can and increase it by one percentage point each year. Third, we all have our own energies. What can you do to lend your efforts or energy to the church? There may be things such as helping to prepare for Sunday services, serving as a deacon, elder, or reader during services, helping with the backpack ministry, leading in Sunday School, doing lawn care, etc. And a final suggestion is that you ask the pastors what you can do for the church. Pastors know better than most what will best benefit the church and where they need your help.
