Come as a baby weak and poor, to bring all hearts together.
From Awake! Awake, and Greet the New Morn
By Carolyn K.
Christ told us that we are to come to God as children, with open hearts and unconditional love, trusting God’s strength to guide us and provide for us. It’s so easy in our earthly lives to fall into the trap of depending only on ourselves and trying to control our own lives and our accumulation of earthly wealth. This task seems more and more difficult each day, and yet the more “control” we find, the further we take ourselves away from God and from each other.
Advent is a wonderful time to examine our spiritual journeys and our lives and “awake to a new morn” with renewed faith and hope and dependence on a God, who loves us so much that he sent his only Son as a baby to teach us how to live. What a great way to start the new year—with a clean slate, sharing our concerns and needs with God. It may take concentrated effort to “let go” of our control and let God provide, but it does bring a calming sense of relief and joy.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your promise to love us unconditionally and provide all that we need. Thank you for the gift of your son, who brought all people together in grace and faith. Help us to trust in your love and greet each day with joy in our hearts. Amen
