She bore to us a Savior when half spent was the night
From Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming
By Jesse W.
When I went to peruse the list of available songs I said to myself, “Please let there be something here I can write about.” As soon as I saw “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” I knew I had found my song. I have always liked that particular song because it has my name, Jesse, in it.
When I went to write about the verse, I thought it was fairly straightforward; Mary gave birth to Jesus in the middle of the night. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that was not the only way of looking at it. God was sending to us a Savior so that we might have a chance of being forgiven. He picked Mary to be the person who would give birth to His son, Jesus Christ (in the middle of the night, which I’m sure Mary loved after traveling many miles on the back of a donkey and having to sleep in a stable with animals).
As we go rushing about this holiday season trying to get our shopping done as fast as possible (lest someone beats us to that “must-have” gift of the year), perhaps we should take some time to slow down, think about others, and remember the miracle that happened 2,000 years ago and how it affects us today.
And always remember that “If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, So God sent us a Savior.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day. We pray that allowing You to come into our lives will let us to be more like You. We pray that as we go about our lives, we continue to carry out Your will in all that we do. In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
