Come adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, the new born King
From Angels We Have Heard on High
By Bill W.
As we sing this song, which comes to us from an old French carol, what comes to your mind? Shepherds with their flocks, a baby in a manger, two parents with no place to spend the night?
Have you ever really listened for angels to sing and tell of the great gift that we received on that first Christmas? When do we hear angels sing?
I’ll bet we would be surprised by what we will hear if we would take time to stop and really listen. As the holiday comes closer, it is easy to want to hurry faster, but let’s try something new—let’s slow down and listen for angels. They might not be the kind that have flowing white robes and wings, but I’ll bet we will hear things we have never heard. If we really think of the gift of Jesus, we will come to Christmas on bended knees to adore that special joy of Jesus the Christ.
Prayer: Loving God, please help us to listen as we celebrate this special time. Help us to slow down and to hear the angels around us telling of the great gift you sent in the form of a baby. Help us to hear what the shepherds heard as they came to worship on bended knees. Amen.
